What is Forensic Support?

'Forensic support' is a term used in disability and community services to describe specialist support for people who have had contact with the criminal justice system, and who also have a disability or mental health condition that affects their daily life.

It covers a range of practical, day-to-day support, including:

  • Finding and maintaining safe, stable housing after release from custody
  • Rebuilding daily routines and life skills
  • Accessing healthcare, Centrelink, and other essential services
  • Engaging with your community and building social connections
  • Working toward goals in your NDIS plan or support plan

Whether you're newly released, on parole, or navigating a community treatment order, our team can work alongside you and your support network to keep things on track.

OUR OFFERING

How we support you

Our forensic support workers are experienced across the key areas that matter most during reintegration. Here's what we offer:

🏚️ Housing Support
Help finding, securing, and maintaining safe and stable accommodation. We work with you to understand your housing needs and connect you with appropriate options, including SIL where eligible.
🧑‍🤝‍🧑‍‍Community Participation
Support to engage with your local community, whether that's attending appointments, joining activities, or simply getting out and about safely and confidently.
🍳Daily Living Assistance
Practical, hands-on support with the day-to-day tasks that keep life running, meal preparation, personal care, household management, and building routines that stick.
🛠️ Life Skills Development
Tailored support to build the skills you need to live independently, from budgeting and cooking to using public transport and managing appointments.
🧭 Service Navigation
Help connecting with healthcare, Centrelink, legal services, and other agencies. We cut through the complexity so you can access what you need, when you need it.
🤝 Support Coordination
For NDIS participants, we can help coordinate your plan to make the most of your funding, connecting the right supports and making sure everything works together.

Common Questions

Not necessarily. While many of our clients access support through the NDIS, we can also discuss alternative options depending on your situation. The best first step is to call us for a no-obligation conversation about your needs and circumstances.
Yes. We accept referrals from parole officers, community corrections, justice health services, hospitals, GPs, and other support agencies — as well as self-referrals from individuals and families.
Your privacy is important to us. We follow strict privacy obligations under Australian law. In some circumstances — such as if there is a risk of harm — we may have obligations to share certain information. We'll always be transparent with you about what those obligations are.
That's completely fine. Our team can have an initial conversation with you to understand where you're at and what would be most helpful. There's no pressure and no obligation — we just want to understand your situation and explore how we can help.
We provide housing support — including helping you find and sustain appropriate accommodation, and supported independent living (SIL) options where eligible. We'll be upfront with you about what's available and work through the options together.
